One promising idea to tackle climate change competes in European Final in September.

<Ljubljana>, 10 June 2015 Slovenia will be represented by its best idea in the European Final of ClimateLaunchpad 2015, Europe’s largest cleantech business idea competition. This competition scouts Europe’s cleantech talent and helps them grow their sustainable ideas into global businesses. Start-ups from 28 countries will compete in the European Final. Now Slovenia confirms its finalist.

After being judged on impact on climate change, growth potential and skills and enthusiasm within the teams, this Slovenian winner will proceed to the European Final:  Hemp (Plastic) Biogranulate. The idea is about hemp biogranulate, eco-friendly fully degradable material, made from hemp fibers and lactic acid polymer (known as PLA) which can be offered to industries with extruding or injection moulding technology. Hemp granulate can easily replace other thermoplastic resins which are now in common use – such as polypropylene or polystyrene resins (produced from fossil fuels).

Frans Nauta, Deputy Director Entrepreneurship Climate-KIC and founder of ClimateLaunchpad: “Across Europe hundreds of good ideas were submitted for ClimateLaunchpad 2015. It’s great to see so many start-ups with outstanding cleantech innovations that combat climate change. This competition trains teams to develop and sell their ideas. We see lots of opportunities for them to achieve global impact with their businesses.”

The European Final is held in September in Amsterdam. Europe’s 8 best ideas win access to Climate-KIC’s Accelerator programme, geared at growing solid cleantech ideas into strong businesses. The overall winner of the European Final also receives a cash prize of € 10,000, the runner up gets € 5,000 and the idea that comes in third place wins € 2,500.

Sara West, winner of the 2014 competition and co-founder of Wavetube: “ClimateLaunchpad has opened up an immense network and expertise that we can easily access as we accelerate our development. It's a once in a lifetime experience to expand your network and your business.”
